According to Secretary of Labor, Hilda Solis, 5,071 workers died on the job in 2008. "With every one of these fatalities, the lives of a worker's family members were shattered and forever changed. We can't forget that fact."
Here's a small sampling of work related deaths for the week of August 28th, 2009 reported by U.S. Dept of Labor:
- Victim was installing asphalt shingles and fell 40 feet to the ground.
- Victim performing drywall work and fell 9 ft from tubular welded scaffold.
- Victim struck by and exploding grinding wheel
- Victim moving a ladder and touched an overhead power line. He was electrocuted.
- Victim was operating a knuckle boom truck and was crushed between boom and controls.
